Susan Boyle Eclipsed By 12-Year-Old Talent

Britain's Got Talent hopeful Susan Boyle became an overnight sensation last week with her moving performance of "I Dream A Dream" from the Broadway musical Les Miserables. Her back story of being a 48-year-old plain Jane who had never been kissed and lives with her cat helped her rack up tens of millions of YouTube video plays in days.

But 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi from Mount Pleasant, Swansea appears to have the goods to eclipse Boyle.

Jafargholi's performance Saturday night on the competition show has given the Internet yet another new buzz.

Initially, Jafargholi's fate did not look so promising when he began singing Amy Winehouse's "Valerie." Though his pure vocals were evident, judge Simon Cowell stopped him just seconds into the song to tell him that he was headed in the wrong direction and asked him what else he sang.

Instead of being crushed, the savvy preteen immediately responded with The Jackson 5's "Who's Loving You?" (Click image below to see him perform.)

From the first note of the track, Jafargholi won over Cowell, the other judges and audience.

Susan Boyle is incredible, but personality plays a big part on these shows. It is going to be tough for a humble, middle aged woman who is hesitant to get a makeover to pose stiff competition for a cute kid who is quick on his feet and able to tackle a Michael Jackson song.

While Jafargholi's skill is undeniable the Jackson song was not spontaneous or much of a risk for him. Last year, he toured the UK for six weeks performing Jackson music for an elaborate pop concert-style show Wales reports.

Additionally, he already has an impressive resume that includes attending The Mark Jermin Stage School in Swansea since the age of five, appearing in the BBC's Torchwood And Casualty and an ad for Comic Relief.

And if that is not enough competition for Susan Boyle, Jafargholi also offers humility to match.

When asked how he felt when Cowell interrupted his performance and asked him to sing a different song, Jafargholi said he was grateful. "I couldn't believe Simon Cowell had given me a second chance," Jarargholi told Wales. "He's basically God in the music industry."

Miss North Carolina USA crowned Miss USA 2009

Miss North Carolina USA Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA 2009 on Sunday, beating out 50 other beauty queens in the live pageant televised from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas

The 22-year-old aspiring motivational speaker and entertainer from Wilmington edged out first runner-up Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, of San Diego, and second runner-up Miss Arizona USA Alicia-Monique Blanco, of Phoenix.

"It feels really natural," Dalton said of her win. "I've worked so be here and this has been my lifelong dream and it's finally here. And whoever knew you could win in a turquoise gown?"

Contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia competed in the pageant, aired live on NBC. Contestants were judged by their performance in swimsuit and evening gown modeling contests and their responses to a question asked onstage; unlike the rival Miss America pageant, Miss USA contestants do not perform a talent.

The top 15 contestants worked the stage in white string bikinis designed by pop star Jessica Simpson's swimwear line. Rocker Kevin Rudolf performed his song "Let it Rock," followed by The Veronicas, who performed their single "Untouched" as the top 10 beauties showed off their choice of glittering evening gowns.

Dalton's was a flowing, blue Grecian number that stood out among a series of white gowns.

Her title comes with a year's use of a New York apartment, a public relations team, a two-year scholarship at the New York Film Academy and an undisclosed salary.

She also will go to the Bahamas in August to compete in the Miss Universe pageant, where American beauties haven't been lucky in recent years. Both Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart and her predecessor, Rachel Smith, wiped out on stage during the evening gown competition, becoming accidental YouTube stars.

Asked about the tumble during the show on Sunday, Stewart said it was a lesson in bouncing back from defeat.

"I think it was a true test of my character," said the 27-year-old Texan, who worked to raise awareness for breast cancer as she traveled the globe promoting the beauty contest.

If there is a YouTube moment from Sunday's show, it may be Miss California's answer to a question about legalizing same-sex marriage. The tall blonde stumbled some before giving an answer that appeared to please the pageant audience.

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage," Prejean said. "And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

Some in the audience cheered, others booed. The answer sparked a shouting match in the lobby after the show.

"It's ugly," said Scott Ihrig, a gay man, who attended the pageant with his partner. "I think it's ridiculous that she got first runner-up. That is not the value of 95 percent of the people in this audience. Look around this audience and tell me how many gay men there are."

Charmaine Koonce, the mother of Miss New Mexico USA Bianca Carla, argued back.

"In the Bible it says marriage is between Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve!"

The pageant had enjoyed a scandal-free year until earlier this month, when Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza was skewered for a blog posting from a trip to Guantanamo Bay. The entry described having "aloooot of fun" at a base that houses the notorious military prison; it was later deleted from the pageant's Web site.

The contest, which is owned by NBC and reality TV mogul Donald Trump, was hosted by "Access Hollywood" co-anchor Billy Bush and Nadine Velazquez of the NBC sitcom "My Name is Earl." This year's judges included "Saturday Night Live" cast member Kenan Thompson, "Dancing with the Stars" winner Kelly Monaco and gossip blogger Perez Hilton

Miss Wyoming USA Cynthia Pate, of Casper, Wyo., was voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants. Jessi Pierson, of Milton, W.Va., was voted Miss Photogenic through an online contest on the Miss Universe Web site.

Organizers said Sunday's show kicks off "Green Week" at NBC. As part of the environmental awareness campaign, the Miss USA crown was designed by a jeweler that specializes in conflict-free and eco-friendly jewels. The crown from Diamond Nexus Labs of Franklin, Wis., is worth $202,000.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Ashton Kutcher has become the first member of Twitter to have over one million followers.

Surrounded by his wife, Demi Moore , Soleil Moon Frye and Sean "Diddy" Combs supporting him via phone, the star officially crossed the one million mark, beating out rival CNN Breaking News shortly after 11 PM Pacific time.

"Where's the champagne, where's the champagne," Ashton said on his Ustream.TV web feed just a short while before reaching his goal. "We've gotta pop the cork on this folks."

CNN, which lost by less than 1,200 followers, quickly congratulated the star.

"Congrats @aplusk. Ashton Kutcher is the first twitter account to reach 1MM followers," someone wrote on their Twitter account page.

The race was a tight one with only a handful of followers separating the two Tweeters as their numbers inched closer to one million on Thursday evening.

"Tell me this isn't better than watching tv," Ashton Tweeted on Thursday, just a few hours before he crossed the finish line. "We get to participate in the entertainment. I feel like I'm directing an episode of punk'd"

Ashton was in the lead for most of the day, but just before 10 PM local time, CNN took over the top spot, leaving the actor to Tweet about the news network's on-air push for more followers.

"Why R they pushing so hard if this doesn't mean anything? It's a changing of the guard. the old way the new way," he wrote, as his followers reported back that CNN was using their live broadcast to seek out new followers.

It was at that point that Ashton jumped on Ustream.TV, speaking live with his fans who rallied around the star.

While Ashton crossed one million followers, earlier in the day it appeared the actor's account was hit by a bug in the run up to meeting his goal.

"Both Ashton @aplusk and myself @ mrskutcher have had our updates blocked for the last 2 hours somebody is playing dirty!" Ashton's wife, Demi Moore , wrote on Thursday afternoon.

Ashton promised if he became the first user to reach 1 million followers on Twitter, he would buy 10,000 mosquito nets, a pledge he repeated on Thursday afternoon.

"I'm calling to have a check made out for $100,000 to the Malaria No More Fund," he wrote.

He also promised that his one-millionth follower would be made into a Sims character.

LAS VEGAS – Newcomer Jamey Johnson beat out veterans like George Strait and Brad Paisley in nabbing the first honor at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, winning song of the year for his poignant hit about an old man looking back on his life, "Living in Color."

"Thanks to my band going in off day and producing an off record," Johnson quipped in a brief acceptance speech. Later, Rascal Flatts won the award for top vocal group of the year, their seventh in a row. Julianne Hough won top new artist.

The show began by featuring country's top superstars in a medley of hits anchored by Brooks & Dunn's "Play Something Country." It included Taylor Swift's fiery "Picture to Burn," Sugarland's "It Happens," Carrie Underwood's "All American Girl" and Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang."

Hosting for the 11th year, Reba McEntire cracked, "Now that's what I call a stimulus package."

Strait and Brad Paisley led all nominees with six. Paisley was linked up by video from Nashville, where his wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley is expecting their second child.

Jamie Foxx introduced Strait's performance of "Troubadour," and joked that the country scene was getting more diverse.

"Things are changing," Foxx said, mentioning his repeat appearance at the ACMs and Darius Rucker's success on the country charts. "(An) African-American singing country. Things are changing. Got a black man running the country. Things are changing. ... I mean what's next, white people going to Tyler Perry movies?"

Strait was nominated for a leading six ACMs along with Brad Paisley. Other top nominees were former Trick Pony singer Heidi Newfield and newcomer Johnson with five each, followed by Kenny Chesney and Underwood with four apiece and Keith Urban with three.

Along with Strait, nominees for entertainer of the year — the night's top trophy — were Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban.

If Chesney wins, it would be his fifth consecutive time and tie him with Alabama for most wins in a row for the honor. If Underwood takes it, she'd become only the seventh female act to do so, putting her alongside Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain and, most recently, the Dixie Chicks in 2000.

The show was to feature appearances by all five entertainer nominees as well as Trace Adkins, Lady Antebellum, Miley Cyrus, Rascal Flatts, Johnson, Miranda Lambert, McEntire, Swift and other top names. Tim McGraw was supposed to perform but abruptly pulled out of the show; a person with knowledge about the show who declined to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter said McGraw and the ACM Awards producers had a dispute about his stage performance.

Among the celebrities on hand to help present awards will include Matthew McConaughey, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

The show aired live from the MGM Grand on CBS.

Great Music Mysteries, Hoaxes, and Scams

All the Jacko fans are in Jacko heaven. Starting this spring, anyone who wants a piece of Michael Jackson can get one: his personal belongings are scheduled for auction in April, and then in July he'll start his 50-show run in London. You can buy his glove and wear it to the concert.

But, of course, along with all the excitement about Jackson's return are rumors. There's always a rumor with Michael. Chatter is swirling that the dude at his recent press conference announcing the upcoming concerts was NOT actually Jackson. His voice was too deep, his chin too fake (something "too fake" on Jacko?), his walk was not Michael's usual gait.

If you ask me, I think he's probably with Elvis on a Tahitian island being served drinks by Jim Morrison. And they're all reading about Amy Winehouse's space-alien love child in the latest issue of National Enquirer. For their amusement and yours, I offer up these other musicians who've been the subject of scams, hoaxes, and mysteries through the years. You can file them next to your Oliver Stone DVD collection. Or next to your Joaquin Phoenix rap albums.

NEW YORK - Tony-winning actress Natasha Richardson , part of the Redgrave dynasty of British actors, was flown to New York on Tuesday after apparently being injured in a skiing accident.

Varying reports swirled about her condition — some saying she was seriously hurt.

IrishCentral.com reported that the wife of Liam Neeson was in critical condition with a head injury.

In Los Angeles, a person close to the family, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed that Richardson landed in New York after leaving Montreal's Sacre-Coeur hospital in the afternoon, where she was treated after falling during a private lesson Monday at the famed Mont Tremblant ski resort.

The person did not say if or where the actress was being treated in New York.

Richardson, 45, is the elder daughter of Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave and the late director Tony Richardson, and belongs to the British acting dynasty.

"We know that she has had an accident but we really do not know any more details," said Kika Markham, who is married to Richardson's uncle, Corin Redgrave. "We are very concerned."

A statement from the Mont Tremblant resort said Richardson fell on a beginners trail and later reported not feeling well.

"She did not show any visible sign of injury but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor," said the statement from the resort, about 80 miles northwest of Montreal.

The ski resort said the instructor and a member of the ski patrol accompanied Richardson to her hotel, where they again recommended she should be seen by a doctor.

Mont Tremblant spokeswoman Catherine Lacasse said Richardson said she was fine at first.

"An hour later she said she didn't feel well. She had a headache, so we sent her to the hospital," Lacasse said. "There were no signs of impact and no blood, nothing."

An ambulance was called and Richardson eventually was transferred to Sacre-Coeur hospital in Montreal.

Neeson immediately left the Toronto set of his upcoming movie, "Chloe," for Montreal, a publicist for the film said.

Richardson's films include "Gothic," "A Month in the Country," "Nell" (in which she appeared with her future husband), "The Parent Trap" and "Maid in Manhattan."

Trained at London's Central School of Speech and Drama, Richardson has had extensive stage experience in the West End and Broadway. She won a Tony in 1998 for playing Sally Bowles in a revival of "Cabaret."

Her maternal grandparents were the actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, and her uncle Corin and aunt Lynn Redgrave are both actors. Sister Joely Richardson is also an actress, best known for starring in the TV series "Nip/Tuck."

In January, Richardson and her mother played the roles of mother and daughter in a one-night benefit concert version of "A Little Night Music," the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical, at Studio 54 in New York.

She married Neeson in 1994, and the couple have two sons, aged 13 and 12.

Katie Holmes Has a New 'Do: The Web Responds

8:44 PM Diposkan oleh arfa

by Claudine Zap

Noticed anything different about Katie Holmes lately? Say, yesterday?

The former star of "Dawson's Creek" and wife to Tom Cruise was spotted on the red carpet with her once-clipped hair transformed into Xena-length locks, sweeping below her shoulders (thanks to nifty hair extensions). The new 'do caused a stir at the "Valkyrie" premiere in Tokyo and online. (We bet Tom Cruise wished his movie got the same reaction.) In the last seven days, lookups have surged on "katie holmes haircut, "katie holmes pictures," and "katie holmes hair."

The many hairstyles of Katie Holmes are always sure to inspire the buzzarazzi in Search. Last year when Holmes went from bob to bold, sporting a short pixie cut, hairistas went wild, searching on "katie holmes new haircut" and "katie holmes' posh haircut" to compare her copycat cut inspired by gal-pal Victoria Beckham's coif. Now the slight actress appears to have tired of trim. After noting that daughter Suri seems to be growing out her bangs, E! Online noted, "Things are really getting crazy over in the Cruise house with the hair!"

Crazy seems to work for this celeb. Comments on the E! Online post included coos of delight, noting her previous look aged her and exaggerated her thin frame. As one critic wrote, not too unkindly, "She doesn't look like a dude anymore." Another opined about the 30-year-old: "I love how some women get even more prettier (sic) as they get older." A comment on an Us Weekly story agreed: "She looks sooooooooooooooo much better with longer hair."

If "hairstory" is a guide, don't get too attached to this new 'do. It's likely she'll change it up again soon.
